Being a wheelchair user I have an understanding of the obstacles that need
to be overcome when planning a holiday or even a trip out for the day, this
site is my way of helping disabled people, their carers and family, to make
an informed choice as to where they can stay - visit - eat out, or play
on the Island.
Every person that I have spoken to about this site has been positive and recognises
the need for it. Not just for the visitor to our wonderful Island,
but for us residents as well.
In order to make this site work I need your input, if you have a story to tell,
or want to praise an individual for their effort, or you may be running
an event, self help group, or have an item of interest and want to
publicise it then let us know.

At last, a site for the Disabled that offers a true picture of the Island from the unique perspective of Disabled people. Well done for the brilliant idea and BRAVO for the clear, concise and easy to navigate website. I hope to watch it grow over the coming months and if I can contribute in any way please feel free to 'count me in'.
Dave Melville, Ventnor.
Try Hurst\'s First. They are accessible.
Hi Geoff
I went into Newport Hurst today and was impressed by the new access though I think they could have floor arrows pointing to the rampways as with 6 levels its hard to find the way to the ramps rather than the steps.
I told them about the wight2access site and they were interested but I wish I had some cards to give out for you...

I will be putting a PDF leaflet on the site soon so you can print off whatever you need.

Hi, I'm a wheelchair user and I like to fish
After having to sell my boat I thought I would never go out fishing in the Solent again.Until I read a advert in the County Press about a boat called Tempress, which is a old navel boat that had just been bought to the Island by her new owners. I gave them a ring and explained that I was a wheel chair user, and would they be able to take me on one of their fishing trips. They were so helpful that I gave them a try and I had a great day fishing. I only caught one fish, which was put back, but I didn't mind that as it was the best day in two years. The owner and I was talking and she would love to be able to take more wheelchair user, but as I can take a few steps it was fairly easy for me to get aboard. But she and her crew would love to help anyone in a wheelchair enjoy a trip out in to the Solent but the boat would need to have a ramp or a hoist, which would be so expensive they can't afford to do it. So if any one knows where they could get help with cost could they ring Pamela on 01983 759910. I'm sure there must be wheelchair users out there that woul love to enjoy a trip in the Solent even if they never wanted to fish. Yours Mr. R.Allen.
